Does Medicare Cover a Gym Membership?
May 9, 2019 | Tom Peterson
Did you know that Medicare plans like Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement Plans, and Medicare Cost offer gym memberships and fitness programs? These beneficial programs help with improving your health so that you can live a fulfilling and healthy life during the glorious golden years.
What Medicare Covers
Original Medicare does not cover fitness programs and gym memberships, but private health plans like Medicare Cost, Medicare Supplement Plans, and Medicare Advantage may offer gym memberships. The gym memberships may be part of extra coverage offered by these private health plans.
SilverSneakers®
SilverSneakers® is covered under some private insurance companies and provides many health benefits for seniors. This program provides on-demand exercise videos, access to any of the more than 15,000 participating locations and FLEX classes. FLEX classes are exercise classes that are offered at other locations beside a physical gym. The FLEX classes are generally located at recreation centers, senior communities, churches, and more.
Silver&Fit
The Silver&Fit program offers access to a multitude of fitness locations, up to two Home Fitness Kits each year, a resource library, and a great rewards program. The Home Fitness Program Kits can include yoga kits, cardio kits, walking kits and more.
